Driver on the run following police chase

Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle which fled from officers.

Police attempted to stop a car on State Highway 33, in the Western Bay of Plenty, at 6.40pm on Sunday.

The vehicle was travelling at speed and fled from police, says a police spokesperson.

'Police abandoned pursuit very quickly due to the manner of driving.

'The pursuit was initiated again around 9.20pm when the vehicle was spotted again.”

Police deployed spikes and a short time later the vehicle was located dumped.

'Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver.”

Anyone with information about the chase or the driver involved is urged to contact their nearest police station.
