An Oranga Tamariki staffer accused of indecent behaviour towards youths in their care is still employed by the agency.

Two staff members were stood down in June after allegations of sexual misconduct towards youths in their care at two unnamed residences.

One of the two was arrested in September, following a joint investigation by police and Oranga Tamariki.

The 34-year-old was charged with offending against four young people in May and June last year, and pleaded not guilty to nine charges in October.

The man - whose name is suppressed - is accused of indecent assault, as well as sniffing and licking his cellphone while watching indecent material with a young person.

The other worker was also accused of sexual misconduct, but there are no details of any charges.

Spokesperson Tusha Penny says one of the two was no longer employed by Oranga Tamariki, but would give no further details.

"Following two allegations against two staff members working in residences in June 2023, the staff members were removed from the residence and have not returned," Tusha says.

"One is no longer employed by Oranga Tamariki.

"We cannot comment on active employment matters."

The 34-year-old is due to reappear in the Hutt Valley District Court next week.
