According to GeoNet, a moderate 4.9 magnitude earthquake has occurred about 5km north of Waipukurau late this afternoon.
The quake had a depth of 36 km.
It was recorded by GeoNet as occurring at 4.54pm.
More than 6000 people have reported feeling it, mostly in Hawkes Bay, but it was also felt in Manawatu, Wellington, and the Bay of Plenty regions.
