Last days to have say on SH30/Te Ngae Rd changes

State Highway 30/Te Ngae Rd

The Rotorua community is being encouraged to have their say on proposed improvements to a section of State Highway 30/Te Ngae Road before public engagement closes next week.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is seeking public feedback on the proposed upgrade between Iles Rd and Rotorua Airport before 5pm on Tuesday September 2 2020.
Waka Kotahi Portfolio Manager Kathryn King says significant development is planned for east Rotorua and the effects of that growth on the transport network need to be carefully planned for.
'We have been working closely with Rotorua Lakes Council, iwi and other key stakeholders to help prepare for, and support, this growth – particularly at Wharenui Rd.
King says the project, once finalised, will be constructed in phases as development occurs.
'The first phase of work will focus on supporting development at Wharenui Rd. The remaining improvements would then be added on as needed in the future.”
'We are seeking the community's feedback to help us understand if we have missed anything important before the proposed improvements are finalised.”
The Eastern Corridor Stage Two project aims to determine how this corridor can be made safer and more efficient, while accommodating future growth and providing people with better travel choices.
The project includes upgrades to key intersections at Basley Rd, Owhata Rd, Brent Rd, Wharenui Rd and Rotorua Airport.
It also includes a three-metre-wide shared path and separated cycle lane, new pedestrian crossings and bus stops, and four-laning.
Waka Kotahi will continue to work with project partners and key stakeholders to finalise the design once engagement ends.
The Eastern Corridor Stage Two project is part of the wider Connect Rotorua programme focussed on futureproofing SH30 and SH30A, in partnership with Rotorua Lakes Council. Stage One is currently under construction between Sala St and Iles Rd.

People can view the proposed improvements and give feedback online at nzta.govt.nz/eastern-corridor-stage2 or call 07 927 6009 to have a hard copy feedback form sent to them.
