Pukuatua St parking building revamped

Rotorua's CBD parking building has undergone some improvements to provide users with an easier, more modern and cost-effective experience, according to the Rotorua Lakes Council.

The upgrades have seen new time-based or entry based parking permit options, cameras that detect vehicles' number plates for easy entry/exit, a new floor layout so reserved car park users are on the lower levels and casual parkers are on the top floors, new payment facilities for casual parkers, an automatic entry/exit barrier arm with no need for tickets, fresh paint, new lighting and CCTV cameras.

The improvements will be fully operational from June 8.

A council press release stated that the new system will identify your vehicle on entry and exit and automatically raise the barrier for you.

If you have a permit, there will be no need for you to make any day-to-day payments and you'll be able to come and go from the building as you please.

More information on the permits is provided below or visit www.i-park.co.nz/rotorua.

Casual users will need to pay for their parking at the new payment machines located on levels two and three. This system will be similar to the on-street parking system except you will need to pay at the end of your stay.

Casual users will enter their vehicle's number plate into the payment machine which will calculate the parking payment required based on the amount of time parked.

Once the payment is made, vehicles will have 15 minutes to leave the building. The barrier arm will lift automatically on exit, the system is paperless and a ticket is not required to enter or exit the building.

Casual users can park their car in any space that is not identified as 'Permit parking only”.

The upgrade provides an additional cost-effective parking solution for CBD workers and visitors by modernising the parking building and bringing it up to a similar standard as other parking buildings around the country.

There are several new parking payment options for the Pukuatua St Parking Building.

Time-Based Permit Options

This is the most cost-effective way to pay for parking. You can come and go as often as you like for the selected permit period.

Three-month permit: $252 ($4 per day)

Two-month permit: $189 ($4.50 per day)

One month permit: $105 ($5 per day)

Entry Based Permit Options

Pre-purchase a number of stays. Each entry/exit constitutes a stay. Where an entry and exit is separated by a day or more (overnight) then a stay is deducted at midnight each night.

60 Stay Permit: $330 ($5.50 per day)

30 Stay Permit: $180 ($6 per day)

Casual Parking

People that use the carpark occasionally, or visitors to the city, can still use the yellow payment machines on levels two and three to pay for casual parking.

· You must pay at the end of your stay

· Payment machines take credit/debit card payment only

· You cannot park in a 'Permit parking only” area

If you have an existing concession card that still has credit on it and have not already done so – please bring this into Rotorua Lakes Council to organise a refund. These cards will not work from June 8.
