Fire has gutted the clubroom of the Lakeview Golf Course in Rotorua.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said they were called to the blaze at around 1pm on Saturday.

Stuff arrived just after 2.30pm on Saturday where fire trucks were still on the scene and fire staff were seen dampening down the smouldering building.

The entire roof appeared to have collapsed and smoke was drifting across the course.

"On arrival we found it to be well evolved," says a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson.

The spokesperson said six fire appliances and two tankers had attended the scene, with the blaze now "contained".

Fire investigation staff are also on the scene, but said it was too early to speculate on the possible cause of the blaze.
