It's three times lucky for Rotorua Musical Theatre.

Previous productions in 1981 and 2004 also proved well patronised.

Having a major, if background, role in all three seasons over the 38 years is Barry Jenkins, who as worked in various capacities.

Barry began his love of musical theatre in 1964, joining the Dannevirke Choral & Operatic Society.

On moving to Rotorua in 1973 he joined Rotorua Musical Theatre, with turns, on and off stage, in most shows.

'Even if it is the same storyline, each show is different,” Barry says.

'Each director puts their own take on the script making it a new experience each time.”

A special reunion of past Grease cast and crew is planned during the November 1-9 season.

This time Natasha Benfell will direct the show.

'Grease has always been a show close to my heart for the simple reason the music was something I grew up with,” Natasha says.

'With limited television options growing up, Grease, the movie with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, became a timeless classic for many of us.”
